DataFest 2021

Our submission for UCLA’s 2021 DataFest

Every year, UCLA holds a DataFest, a mini-hackathon where you’re given a very specific set of data, and told basically to just “have at it”. This is the first time I’ve participated, and I was quite happy with what we were able to come up with!

In particular, this year’s dataset was actually survey data from the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center, who are particularly interested in finding any ways of possibly predicting or understanding some relationships in what they asked and who ends up abusing drugs.

Our team decided to focus on a relatively small piece of the survey data, but one that we found quite a bit to talk about: can we see a relationship in drug abuse and people who are diagnosed with a mental health disorder?

To explore our findings and presentation, check out the project deployment on this website, and maybe the source code in case you’re interested.

Also, I have a [blog post] explaining much more in depth on not only the process of on my experiences, thoughts, and what I’ve learned throughout the experience.
